Presbytery of Chicago Middle East Task Force

 

                                                                     Statement of purpose             

 

PURPOSE:  An advocacy for Middle East Christians with churches in the Presbytery of Chicago, with the Presbytery of Chicago and Presbyterian Church USA.

 

OBJECTIVES:  1. Offer travel seminars to visit/exchange with Christians of the Middle East.

  1. Provide programs to the Presbytery of Chicago regarding the Middle East.
  2. Offer adult education forums to local congregations.

 

RESOURCES:  1. Members of the task force have traveled to the Middle East and met with Christians and are knowledgeable about the issues.

2.      Specific institutional contacts are; Middle East Council of Churches, Near East School of Theology-Beirut, Sabeel Liberation Theology Center-Jerusalem.

3.      Marthame and Elizabeth Sanders, Presbyterian mission workers in Zabadeh, Palestine, are supported.

4.      The Middle East Task Force has existed for almost thirty years and is recognized nationally for its work.

 

The 216 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA passed several resolutions concerning Divestment from companies participating in the military/settler occupation of Palestine; confronting Christian Zionism; support for the Geneva Accord;  and an end to the construction of the Wall.
